    Design Intern 


    Hanley Wood is seeking an intern to join the design team in Washington, DC.  The Design Intern will support the design team in the production of graphic design material and editorial layouts.  This individual will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite 6 (CS6), especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.  He/She will participate in development of new e-mail newsletters and special print and digital projects.  Recent college graduates and current students will be considered for the position. This position will offer 30-40 hours per week for 10 months at $15.00/hour. Specific schedules are flexible within our core business hours (8:30AM – 5:30PM).


    Position Requirements and Duties:

    • Be proficient in using the Adobe CS6 (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
    • Be knowledgeable about print and web design, with experience in Photoshop editing
    • Assist with designing online graphics and print materials within the organizations brand guidelines
    • Process and place magazine articles and photos into sections according to layout plans
    • Obtain photography for publications through online photo agencies
    • Assist in photo research within our internal photo collection and through external online photo agencies
    • Archive and organize photographs into the organizations photo database
    • Review proofs for printed materials

    Previous experience with content management systems (preferably Brightspot or WordPress), HTML, CSS, Adobe Acrobat, XML, RSS, and social media are preferred but not required.


    All qualified candidates will possess the following Skills, Education, and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, or a related field required. 
    • Ability to accurately understand scope of assigned projects, clients’ goals and requirements, and budgets through meetings, taking notes, and asking questions
    • Ability to adhere to all deadlines
    • Excellent communications skills
    • Strong sense of professionalism
    • Ability to multi-task and manage projects and stories simultaneously
    • Organized self-starter with a positive attitude
    • Adeptness using digital technologies
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web browser use, and Google Docs
    • Must display the maturity required to work in a casual, informal office setting
