Business Development - Entry Level


Hanley Wood/Metrostudy is currently seeking an entry level Business Development associate to join our DC headquarters. The Business Development associate will report to the Director of Emerging Accounts. This business development role will be responsible for driving sales through advancing lead management, appointment setting, and extending marketing activities by converting new leads into opportunities, and driving lead maturation through a funnel utilizing a tightly linked marketing and tele-sales qualification/preparation process to Regional Directors of Sales. This business development role will work as a bridge between marketing lead sourcing and sales to qualify prospective customers for the sales organization.


The successful candidate for this business development role will be charged with managing a portfolio of inbound marketing leads and will be creative in researching public data sources to qualify leads, and then drive engagement while working with field sales and marketing on lead generation campaigns. This individual will be a highly motivated, self-starter able to identify and develop new business prospects from multiple sources. They must have the ability to spend 80% of time on the phone interacting with prospects with the goal of reaching and communicating with the decision makers of prospect companies.


Responsibilities and duties include: 

  • Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual KPI requirements including but not limited to Total Appointments Set, Average Call Volume per Day, and individual Project/Campaign completion goals
  • Develop new business via telephone using a variety of tools, including online data sources, referral networks, and Salesforce.com
  • Follow up on leads and conduct research to identify potential prospects and lead generation opportunities
  • Where possible, gather critical account information and needs assessment necessary to engage the prospect in preparation for the set meeting.
  • Manage data for new and prospective clients in Salesforce.com, ensuring all communications are logged, information is accurate and documents are attached to the record.
  • Maintain best data hygiene practices, including but not limited to merging leads, updating lead/contact/account records, manual lead entry, and assisting with campaign tracking
  • Work closely with the marketing team to work though campaign refinements to ensure a consistent flow of leads.


Qualified candidates should possess the following education, experience and skills: 

  • Minimum Associate Degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in tele-sales with a proven track record of success.
  • Ambitious and eager to learn from ground up
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a matrix organization
  • Some knowledge of sales/influencing techniques, deterministic questioning and ability to leverage techniques across multiple personalities
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills, with deep understanding of standard office applications and CRM information capture
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to evangelize products externally
  • Strong work organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize projects
  • Proficiency in using Salesforce.com or similar CRM platform
  • Ability to effectively communicate with field sales force and executive level management
